Mise en scène: serum at night, mist when I feel like it.

My hair routine depends on how long my hair is—and how much I can deal with that day.

Short hair takes some of the stress out of my mornings

My hair is on the oily side. I don’t really get split ends, but I do get a lot of grey and silver hairs. I typically get it cut once a year, and having it short takes a lot of stress out of my mornings.

Long hair comes with a whole sequence. Shampoo. Conditioner. Detangling, which is always a fucking headache. Drying it takes longer. Then putting it into a hairstyle so it stays out of my face.

With ADHD, hair in my face gets overwhelming easily. And when I was dealing with depression, even thinking about washing my hair could make the whole thing feel like too much. It wasn’t just washing. It was everything that came after.

Short hair makes that easier.

Mornings: fewer steps, with an optional mist

I wash my hair about every other day. Sometimes that means washing just my hair without taking a full shower.

With short hair, I can skip the rinse-out conditioner. My routine is usually:

Rinse → shampoo → rinse → squeeze out the water → work in a pea-sized amount of AG Care Fast Food Leave On Conditioner → dry.

Sometimes I stop there. Sometimes I apply the mise en scène Perfect Serum Mist afterward.

I used to keep the mist for mornings and the serum for nighttime. The mist still has that morning role, but it isn’t something I have to add every single time.

Nights: serum, then sleep

When my hair is long, I brush it, apply the mise en scène Perfect Serum Original, and go to sleep.

When it’s short, I apply the serum while massaging with my finger pads, then go to sleep.

That’s the routine. It changes with my hair length, without needing to become a whole new system.
